Wish Fulfillment.

Wind, breeze, grass, song, raindrop, silence, stillness,
Moon.

Window opened.
Window closed.

Leaning elbows.
Sightless distance.
Sliding gaze.

A landscape of our past footprints,
Now ties the horizon together.

Vis-a-vis, need to see you.
Visceral want of your touch.
Lack of permission,
A thin piece of paper,
With wide authority,
Keeps us apart an ocean's breadth.

Tough times for the Gulf and beyond...

The oil "spill" is on all of our minds.

Mistaken Identities

Slick CEOs attempt to
slide away from themselves
On the clouded mirror
Of their vanity.

Masters of all they see
Dominating the domain
Rulers of the Earth
None taking the blame.

What lies beneath? What lies were told
Will now surface.

It's a sweltering Delta evening...

hard to do more than swat the skeeters away.

April is National Poetry Month...

The pregnant middle-schooler next door doesn't read.

You reflect on demographic anomalies
While
Cracked-ceiling gazing
Radio-listening to muttered meter
(cuz it's National Poetry Month, don't cha know)
The voice drones on: Teaching youngsters about poetry is
A GOOD THING.

There are two eggs huddled in the refrigerator.
You'll whip them into a dry and delicate food,
Once you get up.
You'll rub the last bit of butter still clinging
To the foil wrapper onto the skillet.
Then consider which one of your bills
You would pay first
If you had the means to do so.

Not long ago, you had the means.

You'd tried talking to the girl.
Offered to bring her books
From your visits to the local library,
Now shuttered.
She'd grimaced, shaken her head,
Her face turned away from you.

Different drone on the radio:
You are informed by a pundit that the economy has now recovered.

Twenty-five percent of the teachers in your community
Won't be returning to class next year.
